Sailing Courses

Well founded instruction begins with learning the basic skills well, whether you want to cruise or race, or enjoy a yachting lifestyle at the clubs.   Sailing Portal focuses on just that, learning the skills to give you mastery in every role on the boat.  And with Karen E. Lile and many of the instructors being 2nd generation boaters with affiliations with 110 yacht clubs throughout No. California and hundreds more around the world, we will help you get connected to the right community for where you live and want to sail after you have finished your instruction here.

Schedules for classes are customized to meet your needs.  Basic Keelboat and Basic Crusing are taught on the J/24 sailboat and Bareboat Crusing is taught on a 36’ yacht with 2 cabins and all the systems that you encounter on a bareboat charter boat.

Our sailing courses are designed to bring you from an absolute beginner to an experienced Captain who can charter a boat anywhere in the world, or buy and sail your own.  We use the US Sailing Standard, divided into three sets of courses, Basic Keelboat (the beginning), Basic Cruising (Captain of a small boat) and Bareboat Cruising (Captain of a boat you charter anywhere in the world).  Courses include 28 hours or more of instruction on the boats and 5 hours of lectures in seamanship and navigation.  We partner with local non-profits as well and have promotions through those partnerships.
